Dan Dascalu graduated the Faculty of Electronics of the University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest (1965) and obtained the Ph. D. from the same University in 1971, with a Thesis in semiconductor devices, comprising the experimental part done at the University of the Birmingham,UK (1968-1969). He is the author a number of books in semiconductors, including two monographs in English jointly published in UK and Romania, on unipolar semiconductor devices and transit-time effects in semiconductors, respectively. He also published dozens of papers in Solid State Electronics, IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, Journal of Applied Physics etc. Dr.Dascalu was in charge of research groups working on metal-semiconductor contacts, microwave semiconductor devices etc. He founded the Institute of Microtechnologies (1993), since 1996 – a National Institute for R&D (IMT Bucharest, www.imt.ro) and acted as General Director of this institute until 2011. Since 1993 he is full member (Academician) of the Romanian Academy. He is full Professor the University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest since 1990 (after 2011 – Professor Emeritus).
